Questions

How do I work out my net worth?

Add the value of your cash, investments, retirement accounts, home and car, then subtract every debt such as a mortgage, student loans and credit cards.

What is a normal net worth at my age?

Net worth grows a lot with age, so the middle value at 25 is far lower than at 55. Use the 50th percentile column in the table for your age as the midpoint.

Where do the numbers come from?

They are estimates from a model shaped on the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances. They give a rough picture, not an exact rank.
